Getting Involved

Set Up: One of the easiest ways to get involved is to help set up the davening room and social hall.  If you are interested, you can show up between 6:00 - 6:30 P.M. to help set up chairs, tables, prayerbooks, etc. You can volunteer for setup when RSVPing for services & dinner.


Leading Services:  Shir HaMaalot services are all in Hebrew and consist of traditional and experimental tunes.  If you are interested in leading services, our davening coordinators can help you out with melodies, liturgy, and general questions.  To express interest in leading services, please submit your name and contact info in the form on the left-hand side.


Giving a Dvar:  Giving a Dvar Torah (literally “word of Torah”) is a great way to share your thoughts and ideas on the weekly Torah portion with the community through a short speech.  If you’re interested in sharing a Dvar, please submit your name and contact info in the form on the left-hand side.


Dishes/Clean Up:  Shir HaMaalot strives to be sustainable by minimizing the use of plastic and instead using re-usable dishes and silverware that are cleaned after each meal.  Helping to wash dishes helps Shir HaMaalot stay sustainable and gives you a great chance to meet new people.  You can volunteer to wash dishes during the announcements portion of the service.


Sponsoring the Tisch:  You can sponsor the tisch to celebrate a recent engagement, a birthday, a simcha, for basically any reason, or just because you’d like to!  Sponsoring a tisch consists of purchasing food and drink for all to share during the tisch and having everyone celebrate your simcha with you. If you’re interested in sponsoring the tisch, please submit your name and contact info in the form on the left-hand side.


Non-Shabbat Events: Shir HaMaalot also creates events outside of Friday Night services, such as havdalah, a community service trip, tune-sharing, or other events that participants want to make happen. If you have an idea for a non-Shabbat event that you would like to organize with Shir HaMaalot, please submit your name and contact info in the form on the left-hand side.


Volunteering: Shir HaMaalot has long-term projects that need volunteer support.  If you are interested in helping out with finance, fundraising, surveys, website maintenance, or working with Union Temple, please submit your name and contact info on the left-hand side.

Joining the Shir HaMaalot Organizing Team (SHMOT):  The SHMOT recruits new members every year or two.  If you are interested in becoming a part of the SHMOT, please listen up for announcements about applications for new leaders.

Community Support

Shir HaMaalot aims to support the community through joyous and sad moments in life.  If you are celebrating a simcha (baby naming, wedding/sheva berachot, etc.) and would like people to join you in this celebration, please submit your request to the Lifecycle Team with the form on the left.

Conversely, if you are in a time of mourning or other life difficulty and would like community support, please reach out to the Lifecycle Team to discuss how the community can help you in your time of need.
